Sika

Sika were liberated from Japan in 1905, into the nearby Kaimanawa Ranges and Rangitikei River region where Alpine Hunting is located.

The topography and vegetation in the central North Island have ensured that this area still remains the principle habitat for Sika in New Zealand, and we're proud to boast what we believe to be the largest herd in the South Pacific. Since 1992 our hunters have taken many World Class Sika which currently count 5 out of the top 10 typical in the SCI Record book!

Typical Sika antler have 8 points and this species has a long rutting season which extends from mid-April until June. All hunt packages at Alpine Hunting have good margins of time built in so that our hunters can have to opportunity to appreciate this handsome species in his natural habitat, and we offer all our hunters the opportunity to add a sika trophy to your red stag package.
